Maracuya or Yellow Passion Fruit

Maracuya or Yellow Passion Fruit was first discovered by Spanish missionaries in the Amazon region during the 16th century. They associated it with the Passion of Christ because, when cut open, a cross appears inside.

For centuries, Maracuya or Yellow Passion Fruit has played a significant role in the global tropical fruit trade. In recent years, Colombia has gained popularity as one of the world’s leading exporters of freshly harvested fruit. In South America, only Brazil produces larger volumes of this Species of Passion Fruits.

Over the past decade, Frutas Comerciales has exported 248 tons of Maracuya, primarily to the Netherlands, France and Germany.
